Johny

Lets delve into the character design evolution for Johny, shall we?

Ep. 0: Day of the Devil (click for detailed commentary)

This was the first animation I did in the Siblings series. Also, it was rushed, so a lot of the drawings in this episode are really rushed and shitty. When I go back and watch this, I usually laugh about how bad and inconsistent many of the drawings are.

Ep. 1: Runesuck (click for detailed commentary)

I spent two weeks on this one, so I was able to put more effort into making the drawings look much better. While the style is much more defined here, there are still a few weird drawings I did that don't make much sense. It better reflected my style at that point, at least.

Ep. 2: Don't Wake Robby (click for detailed commentary)

I got really ambitious with this episode, and it shows. Not only was it double the length of episode 1, but it involved a lot of dream sequences. Johny reused most of the ones I made for him in ep. 1, but I updated them and added a few new ones to keep it interesting.

Ep. 3: Dog Daze of Boredom

I drew so many cells for episode 2 that I focused all my attention on the backgrounds and animating Spike in episode 3. For Johny, I just recycled old cells I'd drawn for the first two episodes, taking the shading out to keep it consistent with everyone else's lack of shading.

Mini-Episode 1: Pop a Cap!

Mini-Ep. 1, "Pop a Cap", saw Johny with one new head cell, shown above. That's the only thing that was new for him, though, so no section for it.

Episode 4: Half Beard (click for detailed commentary)

This episode recycles a lot of old cells like episode 3 did, but I tried to add more dynamic shading to the outside shots to make them look interesting. I also tried to make the animation itself look better and more fluent, focusing less on drawing original angles. Johny actually gets a couple new angles, though.

Episode 5: Not-the-Final Fantasy XII (click for detailed commentary)

I finally decided I was tired of reusing angles I had made in previous episodes. I put my foot down and forced myself to redraw all the characters from scratch to keep the series from getting dull for me. I have to say they're among the best I've drawn yet since I used a lot of photo references to make the characters. Johny is the only character whose skin tone wasn't altered in this episode, making him look like he has a tan when compared to the others. This is on purpose.

Mini-Episode 2: Heinous Anus Zone

This one introduced a few new drawings I couldn't fit into episode 5, like Johny's 2/3rds angle.

Mini-Episode 3: tWHYlight

Johny only shows up at the end of this and reuses old angles when he does, so nothing interesting there
